There are essentially two different ways to fragrance a product: essential oils and synthetic fragrance “parfum”.
Essential oils are fabulous, potent oils usually derived from plants and they have a whole host of natural powers from healing properties to helping combat stress and even aid sleep. They can also be used to fragrance a product, which is often the route taken by brands who want to make their products as natural as possible but also want them to smell nice. However, many of them contain common allergens such as linalool and citronellol, which are known to irritate young skin and lead to contact dermatitis (itchy, dry, red skin).
When creating the Good Bubble range, whilst I was keen to use as many naturally derived ingredients as possible, I also wanted to ensure that the products were suitable for sensitive skin and minimise risk of irritation or allergic reaction. That’s why I decided to use fragrance instead of essential oils.
To help ensure a “safe but scrummy” fragrance, I chose to work closely with a local fragrance house to create a scent under the strict brief of no allergens or phthalates. It took a long time to get to a point where we were happy with the smell and performance of each but the end results were worth the wait!
We try to offer a variety of fragrances that cater for different tastes. Our Cloudberry is a striking sweet berry smell, whilst Dragon Fruit is fresh and fruity and then there’s our new Prickly Pear, which is a subtler sweet pear scent.
Not keen on fragrance at all? Our Organic Coconut Oil for babies is fragrance-free with just its natural, light coconut aroma. We also have some more fragrance-free additions coming soon. Watch this space ☺
